Job Title: Associate Analytical Chemist - Inorganic Chemistry - Start Immediately (April 14th)
Job Description The Associate Analytical Chemist in Inorganic Chemistry will focus on elemental testing, including the analysis of heavy metal contaminants and minerals in food products. This role involves ensuring that elements such as Arsenic, Cadmium, Mercury, Lead, Antimony, Tin, and Nickel are not present in these products.
Responsibilities - Weigh samples using analytical balances.
- Perform sample digestions.
- Set samples for ICP-MS instrument analysis.
- Prepare samples for ICP-MS analysis.
- Operate microwaves for sample preparation.
- Perform basic cleaning tasks, including cleaning and scrubbing vessels and stocking supplies.
- Engage in repetitive lab work for an initial period of 6 months.
- Potential to fast track to an Instrument Lead role if possessing relevant instrument experience.
Essential Skills - B.S. degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related STEM field.
- Experience with aseptic techniques.
- Experience in the food service industry is ideal.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Strong work ethic and coachability.
- Reliable and a team player.
Additional Skills & Qualifications - Experience in the food service industry or bartending, indicating the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn quickly and verify references.
- Effective documentation skills.
Work Environment
The laboratory is located in Madison, WI, with over 400 employees. This facility, which relocated in January 2021, is ISO accredited and designed for food chemistry testing, including infant formula, sole-source nutrition products, hemp and CBD, dietary supplements, and botanicals. The testing portfolio includes vitamins, minerals, contaminants, pesticides, and shelf-life studies. The lab employs various instrumentation technologies, including UPLC, HPLC, GC, and LCMS. The work environment is fast-paced and can be viewed as production work due to the need to meet client timeframes. Depending on the group, the work can be repetitive, but there is significant growth potential within the lab. Tuition reimbursement is available for full-time employees after six months of service, covering up to $5,000 per calendar year for relevant education.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
